The Dick Hearns Cup
The
Dick Hearns Memorial Tournament is held in the gym in January each
year. Boxers from the other Mayo clubs and further afield if needed are paired with local talent and
a good night's entertainment is guaranteed. The Dick Hearns Cup is
awarded to a club member/boxer whose achievements, positivity and work-rate on behalf
of the club has stood out as an example to others over the previous year.
The family of the late Dick Hearns donated this beautiful trophy to
Ballina Boxing Club in 2015 and Co. Mayo Boxing Board agreed to
facilitating an extra club tournament in its calendar to showcase the
achievements of the late great Dick Hearns. Every athlete wants to
emulate the achievements of the greatest in the discipline followed,
and
in Mayo boxing there is none finer than Dick Hearns.
